Mis’ was born and raised in Northwest Indiana attending Portage Township Schools Graduating High School in 1983. He played Soccer for Hall of Fame Coach Jim Green. Mis’ attended Metropolitan State College in Denver, Co where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology Education. While earning his degree in Education he was a four year starter and Captain of the squad his senior season. In the same season, he earned all league honors. After College Mis’ had a brief stint as a practice player for the Professional Indoor team the Ft. Wayne Flames in the winter/spring of 1989. Thereafter he played with the Serbian adult team White Eagles of Sherrillville and a semi-pro team, Blue Island Azure of the Chicago Metro League. Mis’ started is coaching career in 1989 as the Head Coach of Wheeler HS (spring season) and Boone Grove HS (fall season). He became the Head Coach at Valparaiso University Men’s Soccer Program in 1991 where he built the program for 15 years leaving in 2006. While at Valpo, he earned Coach of the Year honors on three occasions. His teams won three conference championships and one birth to the NCAA Tournament in 1996. At the time of his departure, Mis’ earned the most victories of any coach in Conference history. Mis’ has been an Indiana Olympic Development Program (ODP) Staff Coach since 1994 and Midwest ODP Region II Staff Coach since 2007. He has also been an Indiana Youth Soccer Coaching Education Instructor since 2001. is’ holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National A License, USSF National Youth License and a USSF National Goalkeeper License. He is currently the only coach in the state of Indiana to hold all three distinguished USSF Licenses.
Jeff Oleck, Senior Program
Director of Coaching
This fall, Jeff begins his first year as Senior Director of Coaching for NWI United FC. In addition to beginning with United, Jeff is also starting his first year as Assistant Coach / Goalkeeper Trainer with Valparaiso University after three successful seasons as assistant, goalkeeper coach, and recruiting coordinator at Wabash. Jeff is a staff goalkeeping coach for IYS ODP as well as region II ODP. He has successfully coached for Dynamo while at Wabash. A four-year starter at VU at goalkeeper, Jeff set the school record for career shutouts with 14. He is 7th in Mid-Con Conference history in career shutouts, and 3rd in saves with 345. His 1.72 goals-against average in 2005 was 2nd best in school history. Oleck had five shutouts in 2005, one away from VU school record. He also tied the school record with 2.05 GAA. Jeff graduated from VU in 2006 with a biology degree. He was a two-time Mid-Con All-Academic Team selection and Second Team All Conference. Jeff earned his B.A. in Biology from Valparaiso University in 2006 and is currently pursuing a M.S. in Sports Administration from V.U. Coach Oleck holds an NSCAA National Goalkeeping License and the USSF National "B" License.
NWI UNITED FC COACH BIOS:
Bio: Stephen Anthony
During his stay at Valparaiso, Stephen Anthony has led the Crusaders to five Mid-Continent Conference Tournament berths, including appearances in the finals in 1999, 2004 and 2005. His 2005 set a school record with twelve victories and posted the best winning percentage in school history including a 3-1 victory over Oakland University in the Mid-Con Tournament to earn a spot in the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history. Anthony was named Mid-Continent Conference Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2005. For the past six seasons, Anthony has also served as a state coach for Indiana's Olympic Development Program, as well as a staff coach for Region II. Prior to being named head coach at Valpo, Anthony was the head men's soccer coach at Northeastern Illinois University for one season, the final year of varsity competition at the school. He also served as the head women's club soccer coach at DePaul University from 1990-1996. Anthony has earned his United States Soccer Federation "B" License as well as his National Soccer Coaches Association of America Advanced National Diploma. Anthony has been involved with NW United for two years including time training the girl"s U-12, assisting with the U-14 team and currently trains the U-17 team.
Bio: Cailean Bailey, 94 Boys (U16)
Cailean (pronounced Kay-lin), a Jacksonville, IL, native, is entering his first year as a head coach for NWIUFC. Before coming to the Northwest Indiana region, he created a strong foundation as a player and earned four varsity letters from Illinois College. He anchored the back line as a center defender or outside defender and led his team to three Mayor’s Cup Championships. After graduating from Illinois College, Cailean has undertaken several coaching opportunities at the club and collegiate level. He served as head coach of the U14 boys with the Jacksonville Spitfire from 2007-2008, leading them to a 14-6-4 overall record. Since moving to Valparaiso to pursue his Master’s degree in Sports Administration at VU, Cailean has taken on the responsibilities as an assistant coach within the VU men’s program. He serves as an assistant in training and game management in addition to his responsibilities as associate camp director for the “VIP” camps held throughout the summer. Cailean currently holds the USSF D License, the NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma, and the NSCAA State and Regional Goalkeeping Diploma.
Bio: David Bokhart, Senior Boys Trainer
David is the men’s soccer coach at Saint Joseph’s College, where he has developed one Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Freshman of the Year, three All-GLVC selctions, two All-Midwest Region selections, and 16 Academic All-GLVC selections in two seasons. The Pumas set a single-season record for goals scored (49) in 2008 and had the best overall record and most wins for the program since 1995. He played collegiately with the men’s soccer club team at Purdue University and was a two-year captain. Growing up the in the Fort Wayne area, he played with Citadel FC as a youth player and at Bishop Luers High School. He earned a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) at University of Saint Francis in 2006 and a BA in Communication from Purdue in May 2000. Prior to moving to Saint Joseph’s, Bokhart was assistant men’s coach at University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Ind., for four seasons. He also was a senior staff coach with Fort Wayne Citadel FC and was a director with Inner City Soccer, Inc. Coach Bokhart currently holds the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Premier Diploma. He currently serves the NSCAA as Youth Boys All-America national chair, a position he’s held since 2003.
Bio: Ben Forgey, 01 Girls (U9) & 96 Boys (U14)
Ben, a Chesterton IN native, is entering his fourth year with United but has been coaching in the Northwest Indiana region for over ten years. Ben began his soccer career playing for both the Duneland Soccer Club and NWIUFC until he made his way to the Chesterton High School team. His participation on that team granted him the opportunity to play at IPFW where he was a member of the team for two years. After returning to the area, he was hired to coach with Duneland Soccer Club as well as NWIUFC where he has worked with the youth academy, the junior groups and will now join the staff of the senior program. Last season, he lead the U14 boys (95B) through the NISL and will be continuing with them through the ’09-’10 campaign. Ben currently holds a USSF D License and will be pursuing his USSF National C License this coming winter.
Bio: Jorie Furman, 95 Girls (U15)
Jorie, a Crown Point native, is in her second season with NWIUFC and this age group. In the 2008-2009 campaign, Jorie worked with the U14s as they competed in the ISL. Her playing career has taken her from Crown Point High School where her team was Regional Champions in 2003. She then went on to play collegiate soccer at Calumet College of St. Joseph from 2004-2007. While at Calumet College, she was awarded the Daktronics NAIA National Scholar Athlete Award and the NSCAA Adidas Scholar Athlete for the Central Division in both 2006 and 2007. Jorie is currently working on her Masters Degree in Secondary Education and continuing to coach in the area. She will be earning her USSF D License in the December of 2009.
Bio: David Galloway, 92 Girls (U18)
David is one of the longstanding coaches within the NWIUFC organization. He has worked with the club for over ten years and possesses great knowledge of the history, tradition, and success that United has experienced over the years. He began working with the 88 Boys as an assistant coach and continued as the head coach of the 91 boys from 2000-2007. In 2008, he took the role of manager with the 91 boys who went on to win the State Cup title that year. On the girl’s side, David took over as trainer for the 98 girls in 2007. Additionally, from 2007-2009 he has been the head coach of the 92 Girls White team who are the 2009 Challenge Cup Champions. David also holds the position as head junior varsity and assistant varsity coach at Chesterton H.S. where he has been since 2006. He currently holds the USSF National D License, the USSF National Youth License, and is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America through which he regularly attends conventions and symposiums.
Jovan, a Valparaiso native, has a longstanding soccer tradition in the Northwest Indiana region. His father, Danny Jeftich, has been head coach at Valparaiso High School for over the last 10 years and also took the helm of the Valparaiso University men’s soccer team throughout the 1980’s. Jovan has followed in Danny’s coaching footsteps and has recently worked with the U18 boys team within the Fort Wayne Citadel Club and last year took the role as head coach of the U17 (92) Boys team with United. That team compiled a record of 14-7-3 and has been recommended for promotion to the ISL Premier Division. Jovan began his playing career here in the NWI region at the club and high school level, then went to The University of St. Francis, an NAIA institution, where he was a mainstay on the field for the Cougars. His collegiate experience did not end there, as Jeftich was hired as the St Joseph’s College (in Rensselaer, IN) as an assistant coach in the spring of 2009. Jovan will be working towards his Master’s Degree in Sports Management from Indiana University in Bloomington this fall, in addition to his responsibilities with the U18 boys during the spring of 2010. He currently holds a USSF National D License.
Bio: Andy McCaslin, 93 Boys (U17)
Andy, a South Bend native, is in his second year with NWIUFC. In the 2009 season, he coached the U15 boys team within ISL. Prior to that, Andy has worked with ALITHSA out of Algonquin, IL as a U8-U18 staff trainer. He has also been employed with the former Junior Irish Soccer Club out of South Bend as a U13 boys and a U18 boys head coach. In addition to his responsibilities with NWIUFC, Andy is an assistant coach with the NCAA Division I program at Valparaiso University. At VU he takes on the duties of assisting in training and game management as well as travel coordinator and recruiting liaison. He has also been the Director of the VU “VIP” camp that attracts young men from all over the country who are interested in Valparaiso University and their soccer program. The VIP camp holds two sessions every summer (one in June and one in July). Andy currently holds a USSF National "C" License, the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, and the USSF "Y" License. He also continues to renew his Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification. Andy is also earning his Masters of Sports Administration at Valparaiso University.
Bio: Mia Moody, 93 Girls (U17)
Mia, an Indianapolis, IN, native, is now entering her second season with United and with this particular age group. Before coming to the Northwest Indiana region, Mia built her soccer foundation through working with the high school, club, and collegiate levels. As a player, Mia was a member of the Carmel United Soccer Club and a selection for the Region II ODP team. After her high school career, Mia played one season at the University of Texas in Austin and then transferred to finish her career at IUPUI. As a member of the Jaguars squad, Mia earned the Academic All Mid-Continent Conference Team honor. Mia has gained coaching experience as an assistant coach at Roncalli High School during the 2007-2008 season as well as working with the Dynamo Club since 2005. She then was appointed assistant coach for the Valparaiso University women’s program in the summer of 2008. Within the VU program, Mia is responsible for recruiting, training sessions, and game management. She also serves as an associate director for the VU women’s VIP camp held every summer. She currently holds the USSF National D License and is pursuing her master’s degree in sports administration at Valparaiso University.
Bio: Luis Prato
Coach Prato is the technical director of the U11 and U12 girls this year. In addition, Luis will be implementing United Fit beginning this fall working with all United players in the area of sports related fitness and training. Luis holds the National Youth License for Coaching as well as an USSF Level C License. His personal playing experience includes playing on his state team in N. Santander, Colombia from 1986-1989; Colegio Calasanz High School team player 1989 and 1990 (which won state championships in both 1989 and 1990); played for Division 3 team, Cucuta Deportivo in Difutbol, Colombia, 1990, 1991; played for Universidad Industrial De Santander 1991-1993. Luis is a licensed physical therapist receiving his degree from Universidad Industrial De Santander. In addition to his work with NWI United FC, Coach Prato is also the ODP District 1 Coach as well as an ODP State Pool Assistant Coach. Luis, along with other NWI United FC staff, has developed our Youth Training Program Curriculum.
Bio: Philip Ruskin U15B (95B)
Phil, a native of Gainsville, FL, is entering his first season with United as a head coach.Phil moved to the NWI region in the summer of 2009 to work as a volunteer assistant coach with Valparaiso University men’s soccer program.He began his playing career in Florida as a member of the Buchholz High School varsity team and earned four varsity letters.He was also a member of the State ODP team in Florida for two consecutive years.Once Phil graduated high school, he continued his playing career at Elmhurst College located in Elmhurst, IL which is a NCAA Division III institution.During his collegiate career, he earned appearances in 66 matches (7th in program history) and won the Golden Goal Award for ‘Most Historic Goal’.
Philip has gained coaching experience through his time with Elmhurst College Soccer Academy where he was a head coach for four years.He also worked with the Nike Soccer Academy during the summer months for six years.In the club environment, Phil has served as a staff coach with the Downers Grove Roadrunners for the U15, U16, and U17 boys teams.In addition to that, he ran a personal training program for his Roadrunners players where he conducted strength and conditioning, technical training, and individual instruction.
Philip currently holds a USSF “E” license and will be earning his USSF National D license this winter.He is also working towards his Master of Science in Sports Administration and Valparaiso University.
